Restoring car at present and found paint code sticker in console, stillĨ6 Firebird TA the pastel yellow in 1986.ĭon't know what Pontiac called this color. Didn't like the color when it arrived but wife liked it and like they say when the wife is happy the Kingdom is happy. JohnBought new an 86 Ta the pastel yellow. On a side note in 1992 the yellow "Jamaca yellow" was #52, and interestingly enough is very much like the 2002 Collector Edition color. and that was in a junkyard.įrom 1986-1988 they used the same color yellow, 51U (8929), That 86 was the same color as mine when I bought min in 1997, I personally did not like the faded pastelly yellow, but when I found out that it was actually brigher than what was presented due to fading I re-painted it the original color. In 1985 they had 2 yellows, there was a yellow gold 50U (8740), it was really more orangeish, almost like the Corvette yellow, similar to the magazene picture above, AND in '85 they had a yellow beige #54 (8525), it was really really light in color, almost a cream. I would have had to have taken a pic when I parked next to the 86 T/A to see any contrast My bet is your right about the printing, or being enhanced.Įven if I posted a pic of my car it would be too difficult to tell the difference just because of the difference in lighting and all. it seems that the Yellow had a fading problem, since mine was about the same pastelly color as that t/a when I bought it.Īs for the Mag ad, it does seem to be brightened up a tad. The reason I know my color is correct is my re-paint exactly matches the parts and pieces I did not paint, which were covered up. I parked next to that car on sunday night after the show, and it was faded, my car and his car should have been the same color, but his was definately lighter in color. I know the later years the yellow was different, brighter. The picture of the car with the hood chicken looks pretty close to the one I saw at the dealer that was almost a new car so I dont think its too faded, its just the way it was. The one in the article at the top of this post looks alot more bright than they really were, so that could have been something from the printing or they enhanced it themselves. Offered as a Trans Am Performance and Appearance Package, the Trans Am coupe was introduced in the 1969 model year and was available in Cameo Ivory and had blue racing stripes across the car’s hood and trunk. The yellow they used on the 86 wasnt real flashy to begin with, it was more of a pastel than a bright color. The Trans Am is an upgraded package of the Pontiac Firebird introduced to the market in 1969. The one in the pic above is wrong, its way too big. I can take a pic of my sail panel bird if you want, its original. Both the Firebird and its General Motors cousin the Camaro did a rare thing in 1969 and underwent significant restyles even though a full restyle was coming the following year.
